HOLY SACRAMENTS

The Universal Gnostic Fellowship recognizes several sacraments including:

Sacraments that may be performed by a Keeper:

  1. Blessing

Sacraments that may be performed by a Deacon or Deaconess:

  1. Naming of a Child
  2. Baptism
  3. Anointing
  4. Healing or Unction
  5. Supreme Unction

Sacraments that may be performed by a Priest or Priestess:

  1. All the sacraments that can be performed by a Deacon or Deaconess
  2. Confirmation
  3. Confession
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Communion or Holy Eucharist
  6. Holy Matrimony or Handfasting
  7. Ordination of qualified candidates into the Minor Orders

Sacraments that may be performed by a Bishop:

  1. All the sacraments that can be performed by a Deacon or Deaconess
  2. All the sacraments that can be performed by a Priest or Priestess
  3. Ordination of a Deacon or Deaconess
  4. Creating an Archdeacon or Archdeaconess
  5. Ordination of a Priest or Priestess
  6. Creating an Archpriest or Archpriestess
  7. Consecration of a Bishop (requires permission of three Bishops)

A Priest or Priestess may empower certain Deacons and Deaconesses to perform certain specific sacraments in an emergency or for special occasions and under the supervision of the Priest or Priestess. A Bishop may empower certain Priests or Priestesses to perform certain specific sacraments in an emergency or for special occasions and under the supervision of the Bishop. Such empowerment is for a specific purpose and for a specific period of time.

Permission is granted to each class of clergy to create and use any similar sacrament to those proscribed within the scope of their duty as described above. No further permission or approval is required.
